Froma Walsh, PhD is Co-Director, Chicago Center for Family Health and is the Mose & Sylvia Firestone Professor Emerita at the University of Chicago in the School of Social Administration and Department of Psychiatry.

Dr. Walsh is a leading authority on family resilience. She has developed a research-informed Family Resilience Framework identifying key family processes for resilience in couples and families. Her family resilience approach for community-based intervention and prevention strengthens the capacity of families facing adversity through crises, trauma, and loss; disruptive transitions; and multi-stress conditions of persistent life challenges. Her collaborative practice approach integrates cultural and spiritual resources in recovery, healing, and positive growth. 
She is also an authority on the "new normal family:" how today's families --with cultural and spiritual diversity, and varied family forms and gender arrangements -- function to meet the challenges in family life and a changing world. She is also expert on family bereavement; the relational significance of companion animals; and spiritual resources in families.

With 120+ publications, her books include: Strengthening Family Resilience, (2nd ed. 2006/2011); Spiritual Resources in Family Therapy (2nd ed., 2009); Normal Family Processes: Growing Diversity & Complexity, (4th ed. 2012); Living Beyond Loss: Death in the Family, (2nd. ed.); and Women in Families. 
Dr. Walsh is a licensed clinical psychologist, past president of the American Family Therapy Academy (AFTA), past editor of Journal of Marital & Family Therapy, and a recipient of numerous awards for her distinguished contributions to the mental health field. She is a frequent speaker and consultant internationally.
