Pauline Boss, Department of Family Social Science, University of Minnesota, is now Emeritus Professor in the doctoral program which includes training in Marriage and Family Therapy. In 1995-96, she was appointed Visiting Professor of Psychology at Harvard Medical School (Child Psychiatry). In 2004-5, she held the Distinguished Moses Professorship at Hunter School of Social Work, New York City. In October 2003, she was invited to Kosovo by the International Committee on the Red Cross to repeat what she had done in New York after 9/11/01--train local professionals who work with families of the missing.

Her books are: Ambiguous Loss: Learning to Live with Unresolved Grief (Harvard University Press, 1999, in Spanish, German, Chinese, Japanese); Family Stress Management (Sage, 2002); Family Stress: Classic and Contemporary Readings (2003); and her most recent, Loss, Trauma, and Resilience: Clinical Work with Ambiguous Loss (W.W. Norton, in press). She has published extensively in juried journals, and is recognized internationally for her work with families of the missing.

She is a past president of the National Council on Family Relations, past president of Groves Conference on Marriage and the Family, and has been a member of the Council on Contemporary Families for some years. Dr. Boss is past chair of the Research and Theory Section and the Theory Construction & Research Methods Workshop in the National Council on Family Relations; past chair of the research committees of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy; and past chair of the research committee of the American Family Therapy Academy. She was elected Fellow in the American Psycholgoical Association, the Amercian Association of Marriage and Family Therapy, and in the National Council on Family Relations.
